Michael Barnette

Michael is a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor in Maryland and a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA) who got his start at NMCC as an intern in 2020. He has experience working with children with special needs, young adults, individuals, couples, and re-entry adults. Michael has a passion for assisting couples and individuals navigating through transitional stages, relationship conflicts, anxiety, depression, behavioral and adjustment issues, self-esteem, and anger management. He believes in using multiple eclectic approaches that utilize research-based techniques in order to assist the client in achieving their goals and overcoming life obstacles. He has worked in a variety of therapeutic settings including outpatient mental health clinics, community-based programs, and psychiatric rehabilitation programs.

Michael’s goal is to build a healthy rapport with his clients that allow them to feel heard and understood. Michael believes that the process of change occurs when we begin to speak openly and honestly about our experiences in an effort to ascribe to those experiences and not be defined by them.
