Gene Groves, M.S., NCC, LGPC
Gene’s career spans over thirty years as a seasoned Federal Government and Human Services professional. His diverse experience includes vocational rehabilitation counseling, career counseling, private workers’ compensation, human resources, and project management.
In addition to his extensive professional experience, Gene has worked with individuals on parole or probation within the Federal Judicial System (U.S. Department of Justice) and Veterans (Department of Veterans Affairs) experiencing Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
Gene has a particular passion for helping couples experiencing relationship conflict, divorce, communication challenges, and blended family dynamics. He is also experienced in working with LGBTQ+ communities, addressing issues like self-identity and relationship concerns.
Gene employs an eclectic and integrative approach to therapy, drawing on multiple evidence-based orientations to tailor treatment to each client’s unique needs. His practice incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Person-Centered Therapy, which focuses on how thoughts influence relationships and life experiences. He also uses Solution-Focused Therapy and Motivational Interviewing to guide clients toward meeting their goals effectively.
“Sometimes you must go through something to get to something.”
This powerful quote, shared by Gene’s father, reflects his belief that healing comes from gaining wisdom from past actions while letting go of the pain they brought. It’s about understanding that although damage may exist, it no longer needs to control our lives.
